About Us

>

The Realta' Collective is a group of free-thinking individuals whose main objective is to publish the analytical and critical newspaper, called Ir-Realta'. Ir-Realta' is disseminated for free in many parts of Malta, including University, stationeries and art establishments. The newspaper contains well researched and articulated content, satire and art. It stands out from leading newspapers with its hard-punch critique and modern art by local artists and thus, it does not go down well with the conservative elements of the country.

To achieve this task, the Collective organizes fund-raising events which mainly consist in artistic events, in order to avoid being dictated by corporate sponsors. This, of course impedes the newspaper from achieving regular publication, as the major information outlets are controlled by capital, political and even Catholic interests. Even the entertainment and arts scenes are mainly controlled by these interests thus leaving little space for real talent to flourish. This is a major reason why progress in Malta is still very slow, leaving the country, culturally, socially and economically, far-behind its European counterparts.

The Collective cooperates with other organizations to organize educational seminars, film nights and exhibitions of different sorts. As firm believers of free speech, we have also sought to defend those who have been denied this sacred and fundamental principle in our country, which often happens due to the theocratic elements of the state. It is also very easy to suppress free speech when rich people do not have any problem in spending their money on libel cases in order to be kept off from criticism. Even though these are facts which offer great hurdles to the publication of free information, Ir-Realta' has survived five hectic years and will continue to do so in the future.

Ir-Realta' is open to collaborate with others who have similar interests, both in the publication field and the cultural sector. So if you would like to act, just send us a couple of words, and we will humbly respond.
